Europarc is a collaboration of all national parks in Europe. Europarc has various joint programmes. One of these programmes is the Junior Ranger programme. Junior Rangers are active in more and more national parks in Europe. The goal is to have many more similar groups in many more national parks in the Netherlands.
The Junior Rangers programme is for young people between 12 and 18 years of age. A Junior Ranger knows what the work of a (forest) ranger entails. He or she feels like an ambassador for the national park and - together with other Junior Rangers - supports the national park through a wide variety of activities. Before becoming a Junior Ranger, you have to be an Apprentice Junior Ranger.
More active involvement and participation is expected of the Junior Rangers, such as giving presentations, looking after visual material, preparing a programme segment, etc. An international Junior Rangers camp is organised in Europe every year. Two participants are chosen from each national park to attend the camp. The Junior Rangers who will attend this camp are chosen after a tough selection process.
The national park is working on a special programme for both the Junior Rangers and the Apprentices. The activities are coordinated by a permanent guide. Costs are 50.00 per participant per year. We may also ask for a contribution if your child takes part in international camps. Interested? Send an e-mail to: Juniorrangers@sallandseheuvelrug.nl
